Born and raised in the rural South, I have always been drawn to the variety of subject matter in the open landscape, and have a strong preference for birds of the Southeastern United States. I love the challenge of capturing the essence of the natural world, the uninhibited attitude of its wildlife, the serenity of the changing topography, and the majestic sunsets and timeless beaches of the Florida gulf. I draw inspiration from the ever-changing light and the sounds and scents of uninhabited places.
Being a poet also, the words of Walt Whitman, Robert Frost and Abraham Lincoln influence my respectful treatment of the natural places I photograph. Theirs is the simple yet mysterious world I wish to preserve through my photography.
The ever evolving ecology of our world is creating new challenges daily for the fine art photographer who seeks out the unknown and hidden places for subjects. No one yet knows the impact human wastefulness and neglect will have on our future, but this is certain...I will seek out and capture as much of this unique world as I am able.
